Built as the first house in Benzie County, to conform to the dictates of an architectural style, it marked a clear transition from the isolated frontier settlement to the prosperous Great Lakes port city that followed. The house has remained almost unaltered in appearance over the years. The house has been fully restored with great attention to detail. The Stonewall Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.
