40 Bay Street Bed and Breakfast

Each room at 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast offers another reason to plan a visit to this century-old home on Parry Sound's waterfront. Susan Poole and her son, chef Simon Poole, opened in 2006 with your comfort in mind. All rooms are air-conditioned, have king or queen-sized beds, en-suite baths, and access to two cozy sun porches, a guest refrigerator and wireless internet. Susan assures a good night's sleep with a pillow collection that covers every sleeper's need. Each guest room offers a memorable feature that sets it apart from other rooms. The Bay Room treats you to views of the waterfront and the Georgian Bay, while the Garden Room offers a sun-drenched private deck. For a visit with a spa-like feeling, consider the Retreat Room with a two-person shower that contains a rain head and body jets. Chef Simon's breakfasts would be reason enough to stay in this lovely home. His professional training and dedication to fresh organic ingredients and Fair Trade products show in everything from the coffee to such house specialties as cheddar and chive scrambled eggs, French toast with maple syrup and smoked salmon with brie quiche. Come feast your senses at 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast.

Guest Amenities:
We take "Come Feast Your Senses in year round comfort" very seriously. Starting at our first contact with you, we begin working on making this your best stay at a B&B. From choosing the best room for you, right through to making sure that even the pillows are perfect; ensuring that the food and beverages meet your needs; providing options for parking and informed concierge services, we even make sure that we do it all while protecting the environment! Our Rooms Once we understand your needs (the number of people in your party, the reason for visiting Parry Sound), we will recommend the room that will be most suitable for you. Each of our bedrooms contains extra blankets, a radio and a comfortable seating area. In the bathrooms there are soft, fluffy velour bathrobes, lots of hot water, plenty of towels, a separate room heater, a hairdryer, shampoo, body lotion and your choice of soaps. Forget your slippers, toothbrush, paste or razor? We can provide it! You can access our wireless internet in all the bedrooms. Our guests are invited to make use of the whole house...you are welcome to sit in any of our sun porches, take advantage of the television and telephone located in the living room, take a book or magazine from the bookcase, borrow a CD and player, or come outside and enjoy the view from the seating areas in the various gardens. And if you need to do some laundry, you are welcome to use the clothes washer and dryer located on the same floor. We supply the soap, and have an iron and board available for those quick touch ups! The Pillow Library Sleeping pillows are a very personal choice, and can make the difference in getting a wonderful night's sleep. Chef Simon swears by cervical pillows, while Susan insists on firm. Since we couldn't agree, we decided to let you make the choice. Our standard pillows are hypoallergenic, blown fibrefill and covered with a cotton casing. In addition, every room has smaller, foam pillows available. If you prefer, or would like to try out something different, we have a "library" of special pillows - Obusforme cervical pillows, Snowbird Down Surround pillows, Gel Fibre pillows and medium fill Highland Feather White Goose Down pillows. Just ask us if you would like to use any of these special pillows during your stay. Dietary Requirements During the booking process, we will discuss any special dietary needs or requests (Chef Simon appreciates the extra notice of allergies, preferences and especially if there are vegans). Breakfast is generally served at your convenience between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.; however with advance notice we can accommodate your schedule should you wish to eat earlier. Beverage Service During our travels, we found it was the little things that made all the difference to our comfort. Therefore, we have installed a small guest refrigerator with ice, glasses and corkscrews and bottle openers for those who wish to bring their own beverages. (Ontario law only allows a special store to sell liquour and beer; there is one located just a short walk away from the house.) Prefer a "cuppa" instead? Not a problem - we also have a coffee and tea station that guests are encouraged to use any time they feel like something hot to drink. Parking Depending on the time of year, you have two options for parking at 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast. In addition to being able to park in front of the house during the warmer months, we have an off-street parking area at the back of the house. Should you have trailers, motorcycles or expensive sports equipment in your vehicle, we recommend the safety of this parking area. Concierge Service Once your booking has been made, we will send you an e-mail confirming the details, links to appropriate web sites and directions on how to get to 40 Bay Street Bed & Breakfast. Prior to your arrival, we encourage to call us back with any questions you might have. Susan makes it a priority to know what local activities and events are occurring during your stay. If required, she will make recommendations on travel routes to and from Parry Sound; make dinner reservations; and provide contact information for reserving tickets to local events and activities. If you prefer a more casual approach, we have a book with menus from local restaurants and brochures from popular attractions for you to peruse when you arrive. Protecting the Biosphere The environment is very important to us, and as part of the UNESCO Biosphere, we try to do our part to sustain it. Therefore, we utilize eco-friendly Proterra bath products made from natural ingredients in packaging made from recycled materials; have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms to limit the need to turn on the central air conditioning; and hang the bedding on the line to air dry whenever possible. When setting up the B&B, we purchased energy and water efficient appliances, practice conservation and utilize low energy light bulbs. We are avid recyclers and composters, and we are working on having our gardens certified organic. Therefore, the vegetables, herbs and fruits served from our gardens are guaranteed to be pesticide free.
